Part 3 (2008/053): Additions, 1969-2002
Physical Description: 6.2 cubic feet (6 records center cartons and 1 archives box)
Scope and Content Note: Correspondence and administrative files of secretaries Gary Gates and Eric Stanchfield and Assistant Secretary David Mills, 1969-2002. Half of the accession consists of controlled and general correspondence of the three previously mentioned administrators. The other half consists of records, 1987-1997, of Wisconsin Retired Teachers Association v. ETF Board, a prolonged lawsuit that concerned a special performance dividend (SIPD) paid to pre-1974 Wisconsin retirees. Other parties to the suit were the Wisconsin Engineers Association and the Wisconsin Education Association Council (WEAC). These papers include briefs and pleadings, correspondence, decisions, depositions, interrogatories, and settlement papers for litigation pursued through the Wisconsin court system to the Supreme Court. Despite the quantity of legal documentation, there are no transcriptions of court proceedings. The Gates correspondence includes information requests as well as subject files on topics such as collective bargaining, legislation, and the Investment Board. Stanchfield's informational requests are titled controlled correspondence; these files have been weeded to removed letters about individual's retirement annuities that are confidential, but because some may have been overlooked, the accession should be regarded as confidential. Additional correspondence, labeled as "correspondence from," generally deals with internal administration. A separate file concerns internal and Legislative Audit Bureau audits of the department.
