Photographs, mainly black and white prints, used for general promotion of Wisconsin tourism by the Division. Although undated, the majority of prints date from the 1980s. Included are views of tourist destinations, museums and historic sites, scenic locations, and activities such as fishing, boating, skiing, and snowmobiling. There are also views of the EAA Fly-in, many hotels, motels, and bed and breakfast inns, festivals and fairs, and ferry boats. One folder documents various film crews searching for or filming at Wisconsin locations. Individuals in these photographs include Pat Boone, Glenn Close, Gilbert Hemsley, and Bob Uecker. Departmental secretary Dick Matty appears in some of these snapshots. Actor Paul Newman appears in one photograph taken at Road America.

Part 5 (2003/177, VBC 104-VBC 105): Additions, 1982-19920.1 cubic feet (l folder), 122 photographs, 3279 color transparencies, and 5642 negatives (in 10 boxes), and 2 videorecordings Black and white photographic prints and negatives, color transparencies, and two videotapes documenting Wisconsin's tourist destinations and events, as well as a smaller quantity of similar material pertaining to the promotion of Wisconsin business by the Department of Development. Until 1996 the tourism division was part of the Department of Development, and it is likely that it maintained the slide library for the parent department. Images related to tourism comprise the bulk of this series. Black and white images are primarily represented by 35 mm negatives with contact prints for most images and positive prints for a few. Few images are dated, although most appear to date from the mid 1980s. The color slides were primarily created to illustrate division publications, and when possible, copies of these brochures are included. Additional slides were submitted by private individuals for the division's annual photography contests, the winners of which appeared in state advertising. It is unlikely that the division acquired copyright to the unpublished slides. Typical subjects for both the color and black and white images include Lake Superior and Lake Michigan lake shore communities and scenery, winter sports (especially snowmobiling and cross country skiing), biking and fishing, and events such as the Great Circus Parade, the Experimental Aviation Association Fly-in (EAA), the Wisconsin State Fair, Summerfest, and various other fests. Also included are slides produced by Bike Wisconsin Inc. that were given to the division when the company ceased operations. These color slides document bicycling, as well as bed and breakfasts and restaurants of interest to bikers. These images are undated, but are known to have been taken prior to 1997. Also included is visual documentation of the division's internal activities such as photography and filming, promotional programs, tourist information centers, and selected images of gubernatorial conferences on tourism. The two videotapes, “Wisconsin's Greatest Hits,” were distributed to promote Wisconsin tourist sites. They are virtually identical except for the background music. Paper records pertaining to this film project consist of the RFP reply proposal submitted by WHA, a storyboard, and shot lists. Pictured individuals in this section include Peter and Lou Berryman and Daniel J. Travanti. Photographs and transparencies pertaining to the functions of the Department of Development include photography of Wisconsin harbors including some aerial views used for a department publication, interior and exterior views of Wisconsin companies, graphic slides used for formal presentations, and documentation of Governor Dreyfus' trade delegation to China as well as the Chinese visit to Wisconsin. Pictured individuals in this section include Lee S. Dreyfus, Anthony Earl, and Paul Newman (at Road America).
