Biography/History

The Governor's Council for Consumer Affairs was created by Governor Patrick J. Lucey March 1972 under his general statutory powers and reappointed in 1975. The Blue Book suggests that the council was not renewed by Governor Dreyfus. The principal function of the council was to advise Governor Lucey on consumer matters and to suggest legislative initiatives. The council consisted of thirteen citizen members and the heads of twelve state agency heads whose official duties included some responsibility for consumer matters, and it was chaired by Lieutenant Governor Martin Schrieber. At some times during its history the organization was referred to as the Wisconsin Council for Consumer Affairs.
