Bound annual and semi-annual reports of express companies operating in Wisconsin. Reports show history of the company, officers, corporate relations, steam and electric railroad connections, steamboat and ferry connections, mileage by connections and by states, capital stock, miscellaneous physical property, cost of real property and equipment, depreciation statistics, income and profit and loss accounts, operating revenue, contracts with carriers, ownership of securities, insurance funds, operating revenue, contracts with carriers, ownership of securities, insurance funds, operating expenses, taxes by states, comparative general balance sheet, line changes, and tabulation of business in Wisconsin.

Biography/History

These reports first came to the Railroad Commission. The Transportation Division was formed in 1931, shortly after the Railroad Commission was renamed the Public Service Commission (PSC). The primary function of the Transportation Division was to regulate rates and service of public transportation, including railroads, streetcars and motor carriers (buses, freight haulers, etc.). Before 1940, the division handled some engineering functions.
