Scope and Content Note

S. W. Jensch was a Hudson, Wisconsin attorney who practiced general law in both Wisconsin and Minnesota. His Papers consist entirely of documents concerning six of his legal cases discussed separately below.

The Bank of Edgar (Plaintiff) vs. Eugene Erny, Albert Erny, and The Edgar Basket and Manufacturing Co.(Defendant)

Jensch represented the Defendants, who were accused of failure to make payments upon indebtedness to the Plaintiff and failure to adhere to an injunction secured by the Plaintiff to prevent removal of equipment from the Defendant firm. A sworn affidavit by William C. Seim, cashier of the Bank of Edgar, dated March 1, 1938, is the sole article concerning this suit.

H. Lang & Company (Plaintiff) vs. Northern Jobbing Company (Defendant)

Jensch represented the Defendant in a contract dispute. The Plaintiff was a manufacturer of work clothing in River Falls, Wisconsin, and the Defendant was a clothing distributor in St. Paul, Minnesota. Contents are a copy of the contested contract; correspondence, and briefs, complaints, exhibit lists, and other legal documents. Encompassing dates are 1936-1938.

Lillian Janet Byrne (Plaintiff) vs. Henry Leo Byrne (Defendant)

The Plaintiff asked the court to find the Defendant in contempt for failure to pay alimony. Jensch represented the Defendant. Contents are a notice of motion and an affidavit filed by each of the parties, with the Plaintiff's affidavit supplemented by copies of two poignant letters from the Defendant. The case was heard in November, 1939.

National Wool Growers Department, American Society of Equity, Inc.

These materials concern several litigations arising from the bankruptcy of the National Wool Growers Department, American Society of Equity, Inc. The basic issue involved claims made by creditors upon the bankrupt organization. Jensch represented several of the creditors. Contents include briefs, transcripts, verdicts, and other legal documents; correspondence among the parties involved; and handwritten notes. The materials date 1934-1938.

United Refrigerator Manufacturing, Inc.

These materials concern the legal and financial affairs of United Refrigerator Manufacturing Inc., a manufacturing firm that did business in Hudson and later moved to St. Paul, Minn. Jensch served as corporate attorney on retainer.

State of Minnesota (Plaintiff) vs. John Bartelds (Defendant)

The testimony of Edwin Fredrickson, a former employee of Jensch, is included. Jensch represented Bartelds in a case involving a barn fire in Dakota County, Minnesota.
