Abstract:
Papers of Olkives, a Kenosha, Wis., alderman and labor leader, primarily concerning the local post-World War II housing shortage, and the annual AFL-CIO sponsored city-wide bowling tournaments. The papers reflect Olkives' service as vice-chairman of the Kenosha Housing Authority, and as business manager and treasurer of the Brittles Recreation Match Bowling Team. Also present are typewritten and printed speeches delivered by Olkives to union conventions, and bowling tournament programs.

Biography/History

For many years, Olkives was active in political and labor-related positions in Kenosha, including his service as president of the Kenosha Trades and Labor Council (for nine years), as public relations counsel with the Kenosha Manufacturers Association, and as president of the Kenosha City Council while an alderman. He also served on the Mayor's (or Veterans') Emergency Housing Committee, as vice-chairman of the Kenosha Housing Authority, and as business manager and treasurer of the Brittles Recreation Match Bowling Team.

Scope and Content Note

The papers reflect Olkives' role as a Kenosha alderman and labor leader and primarily concern the local post-World War II housing shortage and Olkives' work with the housing committees, and the annual AFL-CIO sponsored city-wide bowling tournaments. Also present in the collection are typewritten and printed speeches delivered by Olkives to union conventions (Folders 1 and 2), and bowling tournament programs.
