Biography/History

Platteville Academy opened in 1839 and became the Platteville State Normal School in 1866, and was renamed Platteville State Teachers College in 1926. Platteville Wisconsin Mining Trade School was established in 1907, became the Wisconsin Institute of Technology in 1939, and merged with the Platteville State Teachers College in 1959 to become the Wisconsin State College and Institute of Technology at Platteville. In 1966, the college became Wisconsin State University-Platteville, and became part of the University of Wisconsin System in 1971 and then became known as University of Wisconsin-Platteville.
