Abstract:
United States Navy Training Division instruction posters from World War II, numbers 266-894 of a series, illustrated with cartoons, consisting of health and safety advice, general plane maintenance, submarine recognition and warfare tips, oxygen safety, carrier landings, the dangers of alcohol, and emergency survival training. Images primarily feature a dimwitted bomber pilot named Dilbert making mistakes to illustrate the importance of safety and training, as well as anthropomorphized cartoons of enemy submarines, often using Japanese and German stereotypes. Posters were originally produced to be displayed and changed daily in cases on naval bases, possibly on aircraft carriers.
