Abstract:
Papers of Lorinda “Lindy” Rhoades consisting of letters received from her pen pals in Germany and Scotland, World War II ephemera, and a Neenah Methodist Church booklet. Susi Herz, her German pen pal during 1937 and 1938, discusses political views in favor of the Nazi party, laws against interracial marriage, and personal views toward minorities. In contrast, Margaret, her Scottish pen pal during the beginning of World War II, discusses unfavorable attitudes toward Hitler and the Nazi Party. World War II ephemera consists of advertisements and letters Rhoades received from friends informing her that they joined the United States Army. Also includes a scrapbook Rhoades compiled while on a trip to Georgia with her mother in 1936 including illustrated pictures, maps, and handwritten descriptions of various sites.
