Abstract:
Data sheets created by the Oconto County War History Commission to collect personal history and unofficial military service information for Oconto County men and women serving in World War II. Although the amount of information provided on each data sheet varies, the following data is generally completed: branch of service, dates of service, places served, date and place discharged, wounds or illnesses, information about death or capture, and awards received. Additional information may include nationality, marital status, Oconto county schools attended, occupation and last employer, drafted or enlisted, rank on entry, reception center, and training camps or schools. Some data sheets have newspaper clippings attached. Records for some individuals include a photograph (photocopy) usually in military uniform. Photocopies of the photographs are filed with the data sheets. Original photographs are housed at the Wisconsin State Historical Society.
