Biography/History
The subscription books for the stock in the Fort Winnebago and Duck Creek Plank Road Company were opened on July 9, 1851, at the store of Henry Merrell in Fort Winnebago, Portage, Wisconsin. The first board of directors included Henry Merrell, president, R. F. Veeder, treasurer, A. C. Ketchum, secretary, Henry Carpenter, and Decatur VanderCook. In August 1851, Henry Martin was employed to survey the road, which was to run from Fort Winnebago to Duck Creek, a distance of three and one-half miles.
The road was built and operated for a number of years. The dissolution date of the company is not known.
