Biography/History
The Wisconsin chapter of Church Women United organized a State Unity Day for May 13, 1970 to correspond to the World Day of Prayer. Eleanor Nerdrum of Madison was general chairman.
The Church Women United in Madison, Wisconsin was founded in 1924 under the name of Women Church and Missionary Federation; 1934-1938 the group was called Federated Church Women; 1938 it became know as Madison Council of Church Women; 1950 it was changed to United Church of Women; and in 1968 it became known by its current mane.

Part 1 (Mss 317): Original Collection, 19700.5 c.f. (1 flat box) Photographs, clippings, speeches, and testimonial letters regarding the May 13, 1970 observance of World Day of Prayer in Wisconsin as State Unity Day. The contents of this scrapbook pertain to the State Unity Day observance. The planning stage is represented by photographs of persons involved; a bulletin on the background of the planning committee and the preparations; clippings from the Wisconsin State Journal about not only the forthcoming event, but also other matters related to faith, for example, the return of the Apollo 13 astronauts; and advance notices about the program. There are newspaper articles, photographs, and other items describing the day itself, and copies of parts or all of some of the speeches read. Testimonial letters and news articles following the celebration complete the scrapbook.
