Biography/History

The Northeastern Wisconsin Education Association was organized in 1892 under the name Northeastern Wisconsin Teachers Association. Its geographic area first included the nine counties north and east of Winnebago County, Wisconsin, but later was extended south and west as far as Columbia County. Membership was open to all persons interested in education.

The objectives of the Association as defined in their constitution are the professional improvement of its members and the advancement of educational interests throughout the state. To accomplish these goals, the Association holds annual meetings, sponsors conferences and demonstrations, and publishes a newsletter, The Northeasterner.

The records, 1903-1957, of the Northeastern Wisconsin Education Association include constitutions, minutes, general records, annual meeting programs, newsletters, and a treasurer's record book. They are arranged by type of document and then chronologically.

The Minutes category includes minutes from annual meetings, executive committee meetings, and other special committee meetings. The General Records category includes correspondence, clippings, financial and officers' reports, lists and tables. The records from 1903-1932 are bound in one volume.
