Biography/History
State Assemblyman Stan T. Pelecky was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on April 27, 1934. He was educated at Washington High School and the University of Wisconsin, receiving a B.S. degree in physics and mathematics in 1956. He also attended Marquette University's Law School and while a senior there was called to active duty with the 32nd Infantry Division Artillery of the U.S. Army. Prior to that call, he had served an enlistment in the Army Signal Corps, where he was trial counsel on a special court-martial. In addition, he has been home secretary to U.S. Representative Henry Reuss, editor of a weekly newspaper, and a mathematician-physicist on a guided missile program. In Milwaukee he was a member of the 9th Ward Citizens' League, serving as its president during 1957-58. He was a candidate for the State Senate in 1958 and the Assembly in 1960. In 1962 he was elected a member of the Assembly from Milwaukee 1st District and while there, served on the State Affairs Committee. (Source: 1964 Wisconsin Blue Book)

Series: Part I: Materials Organized in 1970, 1963-1964 : This first portion of the Stan T. Pelecky papers consists of correspondence and a legislative subject file. The former is arranged chronologically and the latter alphabetically according to the categories selected by Pelecky himself. The correspondence is exclusively incoming letters and telegrams from constituents and special interest groups relating to various bills being considered by the Assembly. The legislative subject file contains clippings, legal documents, legislative bills, notices and circular letters with enclosures, pertaining to legislation considered by the Assembly during Pelecky's two year term, and partially documenting his role in introducing certain bills, and supporting others.

Series: Part II: Materials Added in 1974, 1959-1966 : Types of material included in the additions which were not present in the original collection include a numerical bill file containing Pelecky's handwritten notes and issue papers written by him and others on pending legislation, typed and handwritten notes for speeches (unfortunately these are not dated, nor is the audience identified), and working files concerning his interest in various consumer-oriented bills considered during the 1963-1964 session. The files on consumer legislation also relate to his work on that part of the Wisconsin Democratic Party platform. A few items document his political activities prior to election to the Legislature.
