Scope and Content Note

Photographs and certificates of Leonard J. Kleczka, collected by his daughter, and concerning his long career as a Milwaukee attorney and public servant. Most of the photographs depict Kleczka, either alone or in groups; a few photographs show his wife, Pearl J. Gorski Kleczka, and daughter, Florence. There are photos of grade school classes and pre-World War I citizenship classes, both taught by Kleczka; photos of Kleczka with his two brothers, John C. (later Circuit Court judge) and Edmund F. Kleczka; photos of Kleczka's parents, Martin and Agnes, and of the Gorski family; a large colored photo of the Kleczka residence: two photos of a Polish men's bowling team (1933-1934); two undated group photos; and an undated photo of prominent Milwaukeeans with Polish patriot and pianist Ignace Jan Paderewski. Kleczka's certificates include diplomas from Marquette Academy (1912) and Cream City Business College (1913); documents appointing him Regent Emeritus of the University of Wisconsin Board of Regents (1973), Emeritus Board member of Mount Mary College (1974), lifetime board member of the St. Francis Hospital Foundation, and a 1967 certificate of fifty years membership, State Bar of Wisconsin. In recognition of Kleczka's service to the Selective Service System during World War II are three certificates and a Selective Service Medal. There is also a folder of religious certificates and photographs, and a folder containing the Kleczka family coat of arms, a 1951 letter to the editor from Regent Kleczka, and obituaries.
