Biography/History

Thomas St. Angelo, a Barron County assemblyman, was born on January 13, 1889, in Cumberland, Wisconsin. After attending the Cumberland public schools, he received college-level training in law, engineering, and agricultural economics from the La Salle Extension University and International Correspondence Schools in Chicago. Following his education, St. Angelo was employed in managerial positions in several Barron County industries. After working for the Island City Bank and the Barron County Federal Land Bank, he became a real estate appraiser for the Federal Housing Administration and the Veterans Administration in 1958.

St. Angelo was very active in the civic and political life of Barron County. He served on the Palmer School Board (1920-1927) and on the War Production Board (1940-1945). He was also the Barron County Red Cross chairman and Republican Party chairman. In 1958 St. Angelo ran unsuccessfully for a state assembly seat from the Barron district. He was finally elected in 1960 and was re-elected for a second term in 1962. While in the state legislature St. Angelo served on the Transportation, Conservation, Agriculture, Contingent Expenditures, and Legislative Council Water committees. He was defeated for re-election in 1964.
