Scope and Content Note

The records of the Norwegian Evangelical Lutheran Church of Baraboo, 1879-1920, consist of one record book noting baptisms, communions, confirmations, marriages, deaths, and church events. All entries are in Norwegian.

Baptismal records contain such information as name, dates of birth and baptism, and names of parents and witnesses. They extend from 1879 to 1914.

Records of communion, dated 1879 to 1916, give the date and the names of the communicants.

Confirmation records from 1884 to 1912 list the name; dates of birth, baptism, and confirmation; places of residence and confirmation; and the names of the parents.

Information concerning marriages, recorded from 1904 to 1916, includes the dates and places of birth, baptism, confirmation, and marriage; the names and ages of the bride and groom; the names of their parents; and the witnesses and their residences.

Death records give the name and age of the deceased; dates of birth, baptism, confirmation, death, and burial; place of birth; and the names of the parents.

A daily record of church events was kept beginning in 1879 with the last entries made in 1920.
