Biography/History

The congregation currently known as the Bethany Lutheran Church of Mauston, Wis. was formed by the merging of the Plymouth Lutheran and Bethany Lutheran churches in 1959.

Scope and Content Note

Volume One of the records of the Bethany Lutheran Church is the “ministerialbog” of Plymouth Congregation, Mauston, Wis., which contains church records of baptisms, communions, confirmations, marriages, and deaths, plus a list of the church's membership and the annual ministerial reports. The early records are written in Norwegian with later entries in English and date 1896-1947.

The historical album of the Women's Missionary Federation contains much of the history of the Plymouth church including annual “Histories of the Plymouth Ladies Aid, Mauston, Wis.,” programs, pamphlets, bulletins, and photographs pertaining to special events and activities of Plymouth and Bethany Lutheran churches from 1883 to their merger in 1959.
