Abstract:
Photographs and proof sheets made by photojournalist Susan Lina Ruggles documenting the summer 1992 and summer 1993 demonstrations at Milwaukee, Wisconsin, abortion clinics by pro-life activists. Images of the events and people of the anti-abortion “rescues” are highly evocative of the emotions and beliefs of the participants, who include rescuers, defenders, clients, and police. The multitude of posters, t-shirts, and sweatshirts in the photographs also provides documentation of the rhetoric and identification of the originating group.
