Abstract:
Research files consisting primarily of Ann M. Sperber's research files and annotated manuscripts related to her work, Murrow: His Life and Times. The research files include materials that document Murrow's early life in Greensboro, North Carolina, his experiences as a war correspondent during World War II, his public feud with Senator Joseph McCarthy, his career with CBS, and his directorship of the United States Information Agency.

Scope and Content Note

The bulk of the collection consists of multiple generations of heavily annotated drafts of Sperber's book as well as files related to the publication and advertisement of the book such as Sperber's correspondence with her publisher and editor, book reviews, and advertisements. Also included are photographs of Murrow throughout his life, many of which appear in the book. The collection also contains various drafts, manuscripts, research materials, and correspondence related to some of Sperber's other publications.
