Part 1 (M87-268): Original Collection, 1839-1840 0.1 cubic feet (1 folder) : Letters, 1839-1840, from Vernon Tichenor to his wife Charlotte Tichenor, who was still in New York, describing his journey to Milwaukee via the Great Lakes with descriptions of cities along the way, the landscape and wildlife, and the people he encountered, including Native Americans.

|
Part 2 (M92-314): Additions, 1842-1894 1.6 cubic feet (5 archives boxes) : Additions, including Civil War draft records, as well as bounty and pension records for Waukesha County residents. Most bounty and pension records are for Wisconsin units, but also from other states, as well as a few for the War of 1812 and one for the Second Seminole War. The Civil War bounty and pension records are arranged by place, unit, then surname, the majority having served with the 28th Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry. Records of the 28th Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry include reports from the draft commissioner to the adjutant general, and records about appointments, exemptions, equipage, ordnance, clothing, and inspection reports. Also includes an 1893 reminiscence about the Union's capture of Mobile written by Tichenor's son, Captain Willis V. Tichenor. Other material in the collection includes a list of individuals attending the September 13, 1852 convention of the Free Democracy Party; Tichenor's speech at the 1852 convention; and an 1842 handwritten lecture (with anti-Catholic sentiments), from Tichenor about vice and virtue, temperance, equality, and the need for reform. Tichenor was a strong supporter of abolition, reflected in his notes on the 1847 founding of the abolitionist group the Waukesha County Bible Society.
