Research files of Frank Custer consisting of his research related to Madison (Wis.) and its history including subject files, card files, and photographs. The subject files include news clippings and typewritten notes arranged alphabetically by subject as well as a series of original manuscript editions of Custer's newspaper column, “Looking Backward,” which he wrote for the Capital Times. The card files consist of typewritten notes and news clippings on Madison and Wisconsin history arranged by subject or street location. The photographs are principally of the Madison area and are arranged alphabetically by subject, personal names, street location, or house name. Also included are slides and negatives; larger rolled photographs of the city of Madison, State street, and various people and events; and oversize photographs of sports teams, houses, musical groups, the city of Madison, and miscellaneous people and events.
