Scope and Content Note

Draper's copies of selected French documents, with scattered dates from 1718 to 1765, on Indian and military events on the western frontiers. The transcripts used by Draper in 1848 had been made for the New York State Library in Albany from originals in the Archives of France in Paris. A few years after his research in Albany, translations, not always accurate, were published in Documents Relative to the Colonial History of the State of New York, volumes IX and X (1858). Draper's selections, totaling forty-nine pages, now constitute only a memento of his research interests and method, for much more complete copies of these records are available elsewhere.
