Abstract:
Pamphlets, periodical articles, and newspaper clippings gathered by Draper during his study of the Mecklenburg resolutions. These printed materials reflect the interest in the Mecklenburg Declaration aroused during the centennial period. Pamphlet writers include John H. Wheeler, Charles Phillips, George W. Graham, and Alexander Graham.

Scope and Content Note: Printed materials, including: articles from the National Intelligencer (1819), the Western Citizen (Paris, Kentucky, 1825), and the Southern Literary Messenger (Richmond, Virginia, 1838-1839); clippings from newspapers in North Carolina and other states, 1873-1879, and pamphlets by John H. Wheeler (1875) and Charles Phillips (1887), which reflect the interest in the Mecklenburg declaration aroused during the centennial period. Phillips's pamphlet includes his 1853 article as well as additional documents.

Scope and Content Note: Publications, including: a pamphlet (1822) reprinting articles in the Raleigh (North Carolina) Register of April 30, 1819, and February 18, 1820; the pamphlet issued by the state of North Carolina in 1831; an article on Ezekiel Polk from the Star Spangled Banner (Nashville, Tennessee, September 14, 1844), accompanied by notes by Draper; a reprint (1847) of Thomas Smyth's article in the Southern Presbyterian Review; James C. Welling's article in the North American Review (1874); and another copy of Charles Phillips's pamphlet (1887, also in 1 HH). One item, a pamphlet by George W. Graham and Alexander Graham (1895), was added after Draper's death.
