Abstract:
Miscellaneous records, mainly 1878-1906, deposited with the county clerk; including fragmentary population and agricultural census reports (1865, 1895, and 1905); Civil War militia lists (1862 and 1864), and miscellaneous records relating to county and town officers. Also included are incomplete files of accident reports, bounty claims, jury lists, 1831 marriage certificates issued by Justice of the Peace Joseph Brisbois, and annual reports of "outdoor" poor relief (1878-1884). The agricultural reports are of various types, but all contain detailed statistics that were probably used for assessment purposes. The series also includes two incomplete letters: the first (circa 1838) written by a soldier at Fort Crawford to a relative about his plans to settle at Lake Superior when his enlistment ends and the second (circa 1849) written by Alfred Brunson giving his ideas about how towns should be organized in the county.
