Bearings for Re-establishment
Bearings for Re-establishment is an organization which was founded to assist Catholic priests and religious who wished to change their state in life and needed help in doing so. The organization has also helped non-Catholic clergy with similar needs. Non-Catholics make up a portion of the total clientele variously estimated at 15 to 30 percent.
Rev. Fewster defined his role in assisting clergyman and referring them to helping agencies. He had little first-hand knowledge of Bearings for Re-establishment; he had referred some non-Catholic clergyman to Bearings and other agencies, and from the reports of those who approached Bearings he concluded that that agency is best equipped to serve Catholics. He attributed this to the special problems of Catholic religious, such as the difficulty of social readjustment for individuals who have not been living in a family situation, and the fact that many Catholic religious have degrees which are not readily transferable to other areas of work.

Career Development : Career Development is an executive development program with regional offices in Milwaukee, Minneapolis-St. Paul, Chicago, and other cities. It does not provide in-depth counseling, but rather a personal strengths assessment service to help individuals determine their personal resources and the directions they want to take in life. Rev. Fewster had first-hand experience with this agency in 1968, as a client, and strongly recommended it to others. Its ecumenical approach to the clergy enables it to serve clergymen of all denominations. Rev. Fewster commented on his experience and that of others he had referred to career development, including one person who found it a negative experience and two who found it positive.

Community Action on Latin America
Community Action on Latin America (CALA) is an organization founded in 1970 and based primarily on college campuses. The Campus Ministry at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, is one of the sponsors and Rev. Fewster has been very active in CALA activities there. CALA is an information gathering and disseminating agency which promotes some original research into the economic structures in Latin America, especially the role of the United States government and private business. The concern is that money put into the Latin countries often does not reach the majority of the people or the needs in them; the poor often do not benefit from increased capital investment in Latin America.
CALA produces a newsletter and has meetings on both local and national levels as part of an information network in high schools and universities. Its membership includes Latin Americans in the United States as well as North Americans interested in Latin American problems.
