U.S. Mss 99AN/4A
|
Part 1 (U.S. Mss 99AN/4A): Original Collection, 1919-1951 (bulk
1930-1945) 6.4 cubic feet (16 archives
boxes) : The file is organized alphabetically by name of production company or producer, and in
chronological order within each folder. The shelf list will only include film titles
when an entry consists entirely of materials relating to a single film. : Files of treasurer/comptroller Henry J. Muller, primarily dating 1930-1945, detailing
contracts and assignments of title in motion pictures to insure proper allocation of
payments. The file consists in large part of distribution contracts, assignments of
title and rights, "mortgages," etc. from individual producers, often with correspondence
detailing contract negotiations both previous and subsequent to the drafting and signing
of the contracts. Also included are scattered details on earnings and disbursement
figures for individual motion pictures. Producers' correspondence of a more general
nature also found its way to these files. The entries for the stockholder-producers
(Chaplin, Fairbanks, Pickford, Selznick, Swanson) of the United Artists Corporation are
particularly important in that they detail not only financial and contract information
for individual films, but also the stockholders' interrelationships and negotiations
with regard to the activities and fortunes of the corporation. Also present is
information on the transfer of stock between old and new owners.
