Abstract:
The Biotron records contain documents from thee planning and operation of the Biotron research facility on the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus. The Biotron operated from 1967 too 2021 and contained 45 individual experimental units which offered individual light, temperature and humidity controls in order to replicate various climates from around the planet. Biotron added a 30 foot tall green house in 1996. Biotron experiments included the study food crops, squirrel hibernation, bird hatching, and included the first plants grow under light from light emitting diodes. Materials in this collection include building plans and project planning materials, project documents, manuals, logs, photographs, slides, and video tape.
