Abstract:
The collection is comprised entirely of slides taken or perhaps copied by Dr. John Buenker as part of his ethnicity research in Kenosha, Racine, Chicago, and New York. Slides were used to produce three tapes. Most of the photography was coordinated by Head of Media David Campbell. Many of the historical Racine photos are copies from the collection of an unidentified local Racine resident.

Biography/History

John D. Buenker served as a professor of history at UW-Parkside from 1971-2003 and held the position of department chair. He is now honored as professor emeritus. His areas of scholarship include ethnic history and immigration, as well as aspects of American social history and progressivism. The prolific author published books on national and local history topics, including Those United States : international perspectives on American history (2000), with Gerald Greenfield; and Income Tax and the Progressive Era (1985). He has held various offices on the now-defunct UW-Parkside Friends of the Library Board.

Scope and Content Note

Approximately 1500 framed positive slides taken or copied and organized by Dr. John Buenker for use in producing films on ethnicity, local history, and immigration.
