Abstract:
This is a collection of LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender) buttons and pins assembled by the Archives Department of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Libraries from the donations of multiple individuals. The collection scope is limited to items with a Wisconsin connection and items unconnected to a specific geographical region. Highlights include buttons from Milwaukee's Pride festivals and various national and political events.

Scope and Content Note

The bulk of the collection consists of commemorative buttons from Pride festivals organized by both the Milwaukee Lesbian/Gay Pride Committee (MLGPC) and its successor organization, PrideFest. The collection also includes buttons and pins related to other festivals and celebrations, political movements, and social causes. Many of the items are undated.

Arrangement of the Materials

This collection was received in, and is organized in, multiple parts. Additional materials have not been physically or intellectually arranged and interfiled, and researchers may need to consult more than one part of the collection to locate similar materials.

The collection contains two additional accessions.

Ted Berg made the first donation to this collection in August 2003 (accession 2003-011). Jerry Johnson donated items in November 2003 (accession 2003-041) and December 2006 (2006-058). Roger Uscila donated items in December 2005 (accession 2005-035). Dawn Schmidt donated additional materials in February 2012 (accession 2011-036(2)) and in August 2013 (accession 2013-006).
