Abstract:

The collection contains records of the UWM Division of Student Academic Development and its six programs, including the Academic Opportunity Center, the Office for Multicultural Affairs, the Pre-College Center, the Student Accessibility Center, Tutoring and Academic Resource Center, and Upward Bound. Records include meeting minutes and agendas, budget plans, yearly planning documents, documentation of committees and task forces, and Milwaukee Initiatives I and II. The collection also includes drafts and correspondence pertaining to the development of the Milwaukee Commitment.

The UWM Division of Student Academic Development (known as Student Academic Support Services through the mid-1990s) comprises six programs including the Academic Opportunity Center, the Office for Multicultural Affairs, the Pre-College Center, the Student Accessibility Center, Tutoring and Academic Resource Center, and Upward Bound. The mission of division is to promote the academic and personal development of students through the efforts of a dedicated student-centered team that provides exemplary services and support. The division's programs offer a variety of support services to multicultural and disadvantaged students at the pre-college and college levels. Services range from academic advising, tutoring and advocacy to career planning, skill building and diversity training.

The collection contains records from the Division of Student Academic Development including planning documents, strategic and recruitment plans, budget plans, five-year reviews, advisory board meeting minutes and agendas, and transcripts of speeches given by Gary L. Williams, assistant vice chancellor. In addition, the collection includes an Upward Bound grant proposal, proposals and budget plans for the Pre-College Center, records and correspondence pertaining to the development of the Milwaukee Commitment, and meeting minutes and agendas for the Multicultural Affairs Administrative Committee.
