Abstract:

The collection mainly consists of exhibition catalogs for exhibits which were held in the UWM Art Museum, the Fine Arts Galleries, and the Art History Gallery, which were consolidated and renamed as the Institute of Visual Arts (inova) in 1996. The collection also includes some miscellaneous exhibition promotional materials. The UWM Department of Art and/or the UWM School of Fine Arts sponsored a number of the exhibits. There are also a few planning documents for the museum from 1982 to 1991.

In addition to the UWM Art Museum, formerly located in Vogel Hall, the Art Museum also oversees the Fine Arts Galleries, located in the School of Fine Arts, and the Art History Gallery, located in Mitchell Hall. In 1996, the UWM Art Museum was renamed as the Institute of Visual Arts (inova), and in 2007 the museum moved to a new space in UWM's Kenilworth building.

Acquisition Information

An unknown donor donated the collection to the Archives some time prior to 1989. Bruce Knackert donated an additional run of catalogs to the Archives in 2007 (accession 2007-042).

Processing Information

Christel Maass processed the collection at the Archives in February 1997. Jeremy Brett added a few files in November 2006. Brad Houston separated some catalogs from accession 2007-042 and added them to the collection in November 2008.
