Abstract:

Records of the UWM Divisional Executive Committee Office, documenting the functions and activities of each of the four divisions within this office, which include the Division of Arts and Humanities, the Division of Natural Sciences, the Division of Professions, and the Division of Social Sciences. These committees function in advisory capacities to the dean of a college or a school on matters of faculty promotion and tenure. Included in the records are meeting minutes, incoming and outgoing memos, membership lists, election results, and criteria for promotion and tenure for each of the divisions. There are a few records relating to the membership of the UWM Library, the Division of Urban Outreach, and the Health Sciences into the Division of Professions.

The Divisional Executive Committee Office was created in 1969 by the University Faculty Assembly in Document #24. The executive committees primarily function in advisory capacities to the dean of a college or a school on matters of promotion and tenure. Other functions include approval of new courses and course changes, advice on educational policy, and resolutions on employee matters.

The files are organized alphabetically by subject, then chronologically.

Acquisition Information

An unknown donor transferred the collection to the Archives prior to 1989.

Processing Information

Ellen Engseth processed the collection in June of 1996 and January of 1997, and added some additional records in May 1997. Christel Maass added some additional minutes to the collection in November 2017.
