Abstract:

Miscellaneous records of the Dept. of Speech Pathology and Audiology and its predecessors, largely consisting of correspondence and minutes. The collection mainly documents course and program developments, certification, and accreditation. Budget, staffing, and space needs, as well as miscellaneous announcements and other matters of concern, are also documented.

The Dept. of Speech Pathology and Audiology was established in 1973 within the College of Letters & Science. Prior to 1973 speech pathology and audiology programs existed within the College of Letters & Science's Dept. of Communication (1967-1975) and before 1967 as part of the Dept. of Speech. In 1975, when the School of Allied Health Professions was created, the Dept. of Speech Pathology and Audiology came under the administrative structure of the school. In 1990 the department's name was changed to the Dept. of Communication Sciences and Disorders.

Acquisition Information

Collection originally consisted of several small series of materials transferred to the Archives prior to 1989.

Christel T. Maass reprocessed the collection at the Archives in December 1993. Charles Welborn processed additional material in July 2012.
