The photographs and scrapbooks of Arthur J. Fecht, a
petroleum geophysicist, who traveled around the world and documented his trips with
photographs and scrapbooks.

Biography/History
Arthur J. Fecht (1891-1945), a Kansas native, earned a B.S. in engineering from the
University of Kansas in 1914. Following graduation, Fecht briefly worked for
Westinghouse before getting a job with the Bureau of Standards as an electrical
engineer. After serving in World War I, he did contract work for different oil
companies and in 1925 joined McCollum Exploration Company. McCollum performed
geophysical prospecting and Fecht later became their chief geophysicist. In 1939, he
took a trip around the world, which was partly for pleasure, but he also took the
opportunity to observe the operations of various oil companies and geological
formations from all over the globe.
Scope and Content Note
The collection consists of materials from various trips Fecht took, and are mainly
from his trip around the world in 1939. He also took trips to Mexico, the Rocky
Mountains, and other smaller trips around the United States. There are slides,
photographs, negatives, and scrapbooks documenting his journeys.

The files are organized alphabetically by personal name or by subject, then
chronologically.

all members of the public in accordance with state law.

donors at an unknown date.

of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Libraries in 1978 as part of its entire map and library
collections.
