Biography/History

The Milwaukee County Citizenship Commission was formed in 1945. As of 1950 the Commission began organizing voter registration drives before major elections. They promoted voter registration, advocated for fair campaign practices and expanded registration locations to neighborhoods, including Milwaukee Public Library branches.

Scope and Content Note

The collection consists of one scrapbook regarding a non-partisan voter registration drive program for the year 1956. Included in the scrapbook is correspondence, meeting minutes, participation forms, photographs, newspaper clippings, certificates and various ephemera. The drive was led and organized by the Milwaukee County Citizenship Commission in partnership with other Milwaukee County civic organizations.
