Edgar Conklin was born in New York in 1822. He later moved to Wisconsin and became a receiver for the U.S. General Land Office, which was responsible for land in the public domain. Conklin oversaw land sales in various parts of Wisconsin. He married Harriet Mitchell (1832-1913) in 1856 and the couple had six children together. Conklin later settled in Fond du Lac and died in 1873.

This collection contains documents related to land sales that Edgar Conklin was involved in, particularly in northern Wisconsin. This includes mortgages, contracts, agreements, receipts, property claims, and land observations. Also included are various writings and correspondence, as well some general Wisconsin history pamphlets and a memorial for Dr. William Becker.

The collection is arranged alphabetically by subject or name, then chronologically within each folder.
