Biography/History
Clara Louise Little (1865-1955) was a writer for the Mukwonago
Chief newspaper. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the
University of Chicago in 1907. She was also active in the Milwaukee County
Genealogical Society. Upon her death, she left stock to the Milwaukee Public Library
that was to be used to purchase genealogical books for its collection.
Scope and Content Note
This collection contains a variety of items related to Little's work. There is a
folder of materials that deals with Mukwonago or genealogy topics. It contains
poetry and stories that Little apparently wrote for the Mukwonago Chief. There is also at least one poem in the collection
which was written by Mrs. Robert J. Lacey. Also included is Little's 1907 diploma
from the University of Chicago. The majority of the collection is comprised of
several scrapbooks titled "Obituaries, Weddings, Baptisms, Genealogical Data and
Divers Sundry Notes on Wisconsin Families". They are primarily clippings and
writings about Wisconsin families, focusing on Waukesha and Milwaukee counties. They
date mostly from 1944-1946, although there are a few earlier clippings. Volume 4 is
missing and presumed non-extant.
Arrangement of the Materials
The collection is in alphabetical order. Each volume of the scrapbooks is divided
into two parts, A-L and M-Z by surname, and are generally in alphabetical order
within.
