Biography/History
Generally, Old Settler’s Clubs were organizations created by original settlers of an
area to preserve its history. The Milwaukee area had several: Old Settlers’ Club of
Milwaukee County, North Side Old Settlers’ Club, South Side Old Settlers’ Club and
West Side Old Settlers’ Club. The Old Settlers’ Club of Milwaukee County was
formally organized in 1869, although it had previously existed more informally. Its
first official meeting was announced in newspapers for July 5th, 1869 and was
incorporated in 1887. The South Side Old Settler’s Club was founded in 1889 and
incorporated in 1895.
