Biography/History
Henry L. Norton (1917-2008) was a staff reporter for the Milwaukee Journal in the late 1960s. Norton was particularly interested
in the history of the automobile and automobile production in Wisconsin. He wrote a
series of articles in the Men’s and Recreation Section on different models of cars
produced in the state.
Scope and Content Note
This collection consists of materials related to automobile production and
development in Wisconsin as a part of Norton’s research for his articles on the
state’s car history. The Kissel Motor Car Company (Hartford), Badger Motor Car
Company (Columbus), and the Thomas B. Jeffery Company (Kenosha), which made the
Rambler, are just a few examples. Materials include correspondence, copies of
articles authored by Norton, and selected copies of primary sources, presumably used
by Norton in his research. The collection also contains a scrapbook also about
Wisconsin car manufacturing, of newspaper clippings, correspondence, and photographs
of automobiles.
Arrangement of the Materials
The collection is arranged alphabetically. The scrapbook is indexed.
