Biography/History

Donna Schlieman, born 27 August 1937 in Pekin, Illinois to Arthur and Doris Lucille (Drake) Schlieman, was a nurse and passionate activist for historic preservation and park conservation in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She was a board member of Preserve Our Parks, a longtime volunteer at the Pabst Mansion and Historic Milwaukee, Inc., and a regular attendee of Historic Preservation Commission meetings. Schlieman worked on historic designation for twelve properties, nine of which were successful: Kilbourn/Reservoir Park, Avalon Theatre, Holy Rosary Church, University Club, Schlitz Tavern (Humboldt and North), First Ward Yard Office, First National Bank, and Goll House. She was awarded the Cream of the Cream City award in 2002 for her dedication to historic preservation. She founded the Milwaukee Preservation Alliance in 2003. Schlieman died 20 December 2013 in Milwaukee.

Scope and Content Note

This collection contains materials in two areas: historic preservation activities and personal materials. The historic preservation materials include awards, research, photographs, maps, notes, correspondence, meetings minutes, agendas, plans and reports. The personal materials include genealogy research, genealogy instructions, ephemera and photographs.

Arrangement of the Materials

The collection is arranged alphabetically. Within each series, folders are arranged alphabetically and then chronologically within each folder.
