The Wisconsin Map Society, Ltd. was founded in 1976 by Wilfred Beaver, who was also the president of the society. Its purpose was to support and encourage the preservation of maps and other related items pertaining to Wisconsin. Membership declined in the early 1980s and an attempt to reorganize based out of the Milwaukee Public Library mid-decade failed. By 2011, the society ceased to exist.

This collection contains the records of the Wisconsin Map Society. The bulk of the materials are from 1977-1986, when the society was most active. It is comprised of correspondence from the president Wilfred Beaver, and secretary Virginia Schwartz. It also contains newsletters, membership records, promotional items such as pamphlets and advertisements for programs, and newspaper clippings.

The collection is arranged alphabetically by subject or personal name, then chronologically within each folder.
