Abstract:
Philip N. Cristal (1894-1982) was a Captain in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers during and after World War I. He lived in Milwaukee, Wisconsin from 1934-1958 and he worked for Northwestern Mutual. These are journals from his time in the military.

Biography/History

Philip N. Cristal (1894-1982) was a Captain in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers during and after World War I. From at least 1916 until 1919, he was an aide to General Black and worked in Black’s office. Cristal lived in Washington, D.C. and commuted to classes at the Engineers’ School at Camp A.A. Humphreys in Virginia. April 2, 1919 he was relieved of office duties and sent to Camp Humphreys full time. June 13, 1919 he was ordered to Europe. He married Romola Elizabeth Johnson on March 4, 1922 in Ohio and they had two daughters. The couple lived in Milwaukee from 1934-1958 and he worked for Northwestern Mutual.

The collection contains three volumes. Two are personal diaries and one is an operations log.

The volumes are arranged alphabetically then chronologically.
