Suzanne Breier graduated from Pulaski High School in 1961 and graduated with a bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin–Oshkosh in 1966. Before becoming Milwaukee’s 14th District Alderwoman, she was an elementary school teacher in South Milwaukee for 25 years. While she never previously ran for an elected office, her last name was familiar in Milwaukee. Her father was Chief of Police for the Milwaukee Police Department for 20 years (1964-1984). After being re-elected 3 times she decided not to run again and retired from the Common Council at the end of her term in 2004.

This collection contains records from the City of Milwaukee’s 14th District Alderwoman, Suzanne M. Breier. The original subject headings from aldermanic staff have been kept intact as much as possible. This collection includes reports, statistics, publications, correspondence, handwritten notes, drafts/copies of ordinances, newspaper clippings and articles. Some of the largest subjects include documents regarding construction proposals by Marquette University for their Avenue Commons project and documents from the 1993 Milwaukee water crisis / cryptosporidium outbreak. The crisis began in spring of 1993 when residents began getting sick and cryptosporidium was discovered in the water supply. Other substantially represented topics include materials related to graffiti, gangs, guns, light rail, health care, domestic partnerships, Milwaukee Police Department and the Mayor’s Task Force on Juvenile Justice.

Folders are arranged alphabetically by subject and then chronologically within each folder.
