Biography/History
James Witkowiak attended St. Stanislaus Elementary School, Notre Dame High School,
the University of Wisconsin – Stout, Waukesha Technical College, Worsham College
(Des Plaines, IL) and Marquette University. He served in the US Air Force and
Wisconsin’s Air National Guard. In 1988, he purchased Witkowiak Funeral Home from
his father, Norbert Witkowiak. He owns/operates both Witkowiak Funeral Home and
Brett Funeral Home in Milwaukee. After 2 terms as an alderman, Witkowiak was
defeated by Angel Sanchez for the 12th district aldermanic position. Sanchez then
lost to Witkowiak in 2004 and 2008. In 2012, Witkowiak was defeated by Jose
Perez.
Scope and Content Note
This collection contains records from the City of Milwaukee’s 12th District Alderman,
James N. Witkowiak. The bulk of the records date from his later Aldermanic tenure,
2004-2012. The original subject headings from aldermanic staff have been kept intact
as much as possible. This collection includes reports, statistics, publications,
correspondence, ordinance drafts/copies, newspaper clippings and articles.

Folders are arranged alphabetically by subject and then chronologically within each
folder.
