Biography/History

Kevin O’Connor was born in Montclair, New Jersey, on August 26, 1949. He moved to Milwaukee in 1967 and earned a degree in history from Marquette University in 1971. O’Connor worked as an administrative assistant to Common Council President William R. Drew (1968-1974) and for the Department of City Development, serving as the department’s liaison to the Common Council. After Drew resigned in July 1974 to head the Department of City Development, O’Connor won a seat on the Common Council by special election on September 10, 1974. He became Alderman to the 4th district, which includes downtown Milwaukee. During his tenure, O’Connor was the chairman of the Judiciary and Legislation Committee and served on several others as well. He was a member of the Common Council until September 1983, when he resigned after accepting a job with First Wisconsin Corporation. O’Connor was succeeded by Paul Henningsen later that year.
