Abstract:
Area car enthusiasts formed Sports Car Club of La Crosse in 1957. The club sponsors many events including rallies, gymkhanas, icekhanas, and social activities. The organization is still active.

Most of the collection consists of materials relating to the club’s events such as gymkhanas, rallies, and results from events. Other materials include articles of incorporation, bylaws, financial reports, membership lists, and minutes.

A few materials such as articles of incorporation and bylaws are included from a related organization, the Hiawatha Valley Motorsports Council, Ltd. This group coordinated and unified motorsport activities among car clubs in the upper Midwest.

Scope and Contents

Materials from the Sports Car Club of La Crosse include attendance lists (1963-1987), articles of incorporation (1965-1967), awards (1975-1977), and constitution and bylaws (1959-1977). Correspondence is separated into general correspondence (1962-1987) and correspondence pertaining to La Crosse’s Okotoberfest celebration (1963-1973).

Much of the collection is comprised of materials relating to the club’s events. These materials include gymkhanas (1961-1980), rallies (1958-1971; 1974-1987), and event results (1959-1976; 1980-1982; 1987).

Other materials include financial reports (1963-1987), membership lists (1963-1985), meeting minutes (1963-1987), miscellaneous materials (1964-1984), newspaper clippings (1958-1959; 1987), and publicity (1965-1977). Items from a related organization, the Hiawatha Valley Motorsports Council Ltd., consist of articles of incorporation and bylaws (1974-1975). Other materials from the Sports Car Club of La Crosse include reports from the club president (1964-1967), reports from the club secretary (1966-1970; 1979-1982), club rules (1967; 1981) and a survey conducted by the club in 1974.

Historical Note

A small group of car enthusiasts formed the Sports Car Club of La Crosse (SCCLaC) in 1957. The sole qualification for membership is an interest in cars; members do not need to own sports cars. The club sponsors many events including rallies, gymkhanas, icekhanas, and social activities. In 1963, a newsletter called “The Upstart” was begun, and the name was later changed to “Der Auspuffer.” The club was incorporated as a non-profit organization in 1965. The organization is still active.
