Abstract:
Still images and scattered materials related to the Persian Gulf War service of Coonjohn, a soldier from Madison, Wis. who served with the 826th Ordnance Company, a unit comprised of mainly Wisconsin service men and women. The core of the collection are the numerous color photographs Coonjohn took while stationed at the “Badger Pit” (headquarters of the 826th) near Dhahran and Al Khafji. Images document a range of activities including camp life, interactions with civilians, building damage, Middle Eastern cities, military vehicles, and American and international troops. There are a number of photographs of identified groups and individuals. Papers include information about the publishing of Coonjohn's book “Operation Desert Storm: Stories from the Front.” There are also Desert Storm trading cards, materials about Saudi Arabia, and Valentine's Day cards received from school children in Richmond, Virginia showing home front support of troops.
