Correspondence received and sent by the wardens of the Wisconsin State Prison at Waupun in three categories: outgoing, incoming, and binder twine inquiries. Included are letters to and from county, state, and federal government officials, businesses, and the general public. Although the majority concern routine operations of the prison, particularly the purchasing of supplies and the management of the prison's furniture and twine operations, some letters concern the behavior and treatment of individual prisoners and overall institutional management. The incoming correspondence concerns only the period, 1873-1881; the outgoing correspondence spans the period 1878-1914, with major breaks in the coverage. The outgoing and incoming files overlap only for the years, 1878-1879. English
