Abstract: Records of ACORN (Association of
Community Organizations for Reform Now) and its first organizer, Wade Rathke, reflecting the
organization's goals of uniting welfare recipients with working people around issues of
economic justice, and its later diversification into politics and its growth into a
multi-state organization. The collection provides good documentation of community organizing
in the U.S. from 1965 to 2008 with information on welfare organizing, Vietnam veterans'
rights, local environmental issues, community control of radio and television, politics, and
social protest.
